Are you interested in taking a free respirator fit-test training?
HCCME continues to partner with York County Emergency Management Agency to offer members a free in-person course on utilizing a PortaCount machine, as well as how to properly fit-test people.
We have a handful of members who have already voiced interest, but need a few more participants in order to host the training. The course will be held in Alfred, Maine and the date to be determined once interested participants are identified.
If you have any questions regarding this training, please reach out to HCCME@AllClearEMG.com
Integrated Preparedness Workgroup
The Healthcare Coalition of Maine is forming an Integrated Preparedness Workgroup (IPW). We are looking for coalition members who may have an interest in preparedness activities such as plan writing, exercise design, training and much more. Please consider being a part of a multi-agency group working to move the HCCME preparedness needle.
The overall goal of the IPW will be to develop coalition-level preparedness/response plans that align with state and regional level plans and to conduct training and exercises to validate these plans.
What are some of our project ideas for the upcoming year?
• Develop and conduct an Integrated Preparedness Planning Workshop (IPPW)
• Develop an HCCME Communications and Information Sharing Plan
• Update Plans such as the Emergency Response Plan and Surge Annexes
• Develop a Radiological Specialty Surge Annex
• Design HCC exercises as identified in the IPPW
• Identification of training opportunities
HCCME will hold the first workgroup meeting on July 28, 2022, from 2-3PM. Future meetings will be held at least quarterly (October, January and April) with the day of week and time of day to be determined by the group during the July meeting.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at HCCME@AllClearEMG.com.

National Access and Functional Needs Symposium July 19th-20th from 12-3PM ET Daily
One of the essential primary elements of emergency management is an unwavering commitment to providing equal, accessible, quality service to every individual impacted by disaster – including individuals with access and functional needs (AFN).
To underscore the need to ensure considerations for individuals with disabilities and access and functional needs are addressed before, during, and after disasters; the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (CDHSEM), and New York University (NYU) are hosting a two, half-day, online National AFN Symposium that highlights forward-leaning, inclusive, innovative practices in emergency management.
Innovative work from across the nation will be showcased and specific examples of integrated COVID response operations, inclusive active shooter awareness guidance, community outreach efforts, and accessible sheltering will be highlighted.

The Intersection of Disasters and Climate Change Webinar on August 18th @ 2:00 PM ET
Climate and disaster work are inextricably linked. Disasters do not happen in isolation from one another. The research does not suggest that the number of disasters we now face is an outlier, but rather just the beginning of what is to come as the consequences of the climate crisis begin to manifest. We must address not only our nation’s readiness to manage but also our capacity to manage multiple threats at once. Understanding the strain that emergency management is currently under can address the changes we need to make in anticipation of our increasing risk.

CDC Recommends Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for Children and Adolescents
On June 24, CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine be used as an option for children ages 6 through 17 years, in addition to its already recommended use in children 6 months through 5 years and adults 18 years and older. This recommendation reinforces the use of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine as an important tool in the pandemic and provides another vaccine option for children and adolescents. The ACIP recommendation comes after a thorough review of the scientific evidence demonstrating safety and efficacy and supports the use of the vaccine among those 6 through 17 years of age. For more information, explore the CDC's COVID-19 Vaccine Recommendations for Children and Teens webpage.
